Church of San Vittore
Montabone (Asti)
The date of the first construction of the country church dedicated to San Vittore is uncertain; however some writings date it back to a period between the fitheenth and sixteenth centuries. Much restoration has contributed to make the initially small church, more spacious and distinguished, by widening the central nave, and building two side aisles, which form the transept. A portico with a triangular shaped tympanum was also added, and finally a belfry in bricks onto the bell-tower. It also has a presbytery, an apse and one bay.

Church of San Bernardino and Madonna del Carmine
Serole (Asti)
This baroque style church, was once the confraternity’s oratory; today it’s de-consecrated and is used to organize various cultural activities. Small in size, it was built using stone, an exquisite sign of excellent workmanship . The white coloured dècors on the façade recall evident baroque features, typical for the south of Piemonte: the niches, the cornices on the pediment, the window with side volutes and a central finely shaped aperture, and the tympanum with protruding cornices which hosts a fake quatrefoile rose-window.

The church still maintains the original little chapel, which was built to ask for protection from the plague epidemic. It’s made up of a series of different buildings leaning against one another, amongst which the little sacristy on the side, an important campanile with a cupola shape covering, and a pronaos with a lancet arch opening. The portal inside the pronaos, is surmounted by a pediment bearing an inscription which bears the devotional title to the Saint and the date of the building, 1631, with a recent decoration of San Rocco’s image depicted with his loyal dog, that together protect the area of Roccaverano from the plague. Inside, there are décors again with the patron saint surrounded by angels. The vaults are depicted with the Madonna with Baby Jesus and San Giovannino.

The ancient church is located on the old road (recently restored), and maintains undamaged, its historical and devotional significance of a country parish. The façade, with windows that adorn the entrance, is characterized by a canopy which is upheld by beams, and are inserted into the façade’s walling. On the sides there are two simple piers. On the right-hand side of the building, a construction leaning against it is visible, probably functioning as the sacristy. The central nave is illuminated by large windows on the side walls. The bell gable emerges from the top.

One of the most curious features is the pronaos dating from 1947, with two pilasters that finish with cusps. The central part, made up of one nave, has also been re-modelled in the area behind the apse, with the addition of another building.
The façade is made up of a main central portal, due side windows, and an upper window.

The cemetery church was first mentioned in 1648. Its façade is shaped by four piers that en-frame two side niches. It has a Latin cross plan, with a central nave, barrel and arch vaults, and a transept which hosts minor altars. Of particular importance inside apart from the four linear decorums of the bays, are the six panels in the choir, four on the side and two at the bottom, representing important figures of Saints, amongst whom we recognize Santa Caterina of Siena with the grinding wheel and the palm of the martyrdom Martirio. The major altar has a bas-relief decorum of cherubims with columns behind it with full-relief angels.

Vesime (Asti)
The church is mentioned in 1513, even though it’s believed that it existed previously.
The façade characterized in a slender baroque style, is distinguished in two parts by a brick arched attic. Of particular interest is the movement effect created by the large cornices and central window. Following the restoration, a series of frescos were brought to light dating from the sixteenth century, depicting scenes of the Passion of Christ, the Temptations of Sant’Antonio and the martyr San Sebastiano; valuable operas that testify the transition from Gothic to baroque.

Built in the late eighteenth century, it was called “di Perticale”, and functioned as an “welcoming” point along the Via Crucis, where there were a series of other chapels, of which one is still visible leaning against a house. Built on a Latin cross plan, with a lowered transept, it hosts two side altars, one of which is dedicated to the Madonna Assunta, with a vow from the local community marking the end of of the plague.

The church dates from 1679, and its unusual name probably derives from “tufetto”, which is the tuff hill on which it stands. The building dominates the cemetery with a side bell-tower which looks directly onto the façade. It has one main nave, which is over-looked by barrel vaults with reduced arches and groins. An important baroque style altar decorates the inside, and behind it there is a fresco dedicated to Santa Caterina.
